Fern & Ember

A restaurant site where the menu is content, not a PDF.

Self-directed build for an invented business — nobody commissioned this. Everything you can click is real and working; only the company is made up.

Menu, opening hours, and a table enquiry form for a small wood-fired restaurant — structured so the owner could change a price without phoning anyone.

Fern & Ember is an invented restaurant, built around the thing restaurants most often get wrong online: putting the menu in a PDF that nobody can read on a phone.

Here the menu is structured content. Each dish has a name, description, price, and dietary tags, which means it renders properly on any screen, can be read aloud by a screen reader, and is legible to search engines looking for "vegetarian" near a location.

Opening hours highlight the current day automatically, worked out on each render rather than hardcoded.

The booking form collects a date, time, and party size and confirms clearly. In a client build this would write to the restaurant's reservation system; here it demonstrates the flow end to end.
